New Netflix Original Series 'Santa Clarita Diet' Features Drew Barrymore as Flesh-Eating Suburban Mom

By

"Santa Clarita Diet" is a New Netflix Original series set to premiere on Feb. 3. It stars Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant as Shiela and Joel Hammond, your common variety suburban couple with less than exciting lives. The Hammonds are a husband and wife realtor team with two kids that lead seemingly mundane lives.

However, everything changes when Shiela (Barrymore), undergoes a literal life-altering event as her heart stops beating. The bizarre does not end there as Sheila vomits all of her internal organs and continues to live despite her heart stopping. To add to that, she develops an appetite for human flesh.

The family is surprisingly optimistic about Sheila's condition but find that 'zombie' has a negative connotation with it. Sheila grows fond of her situation as she tells Joel "I do like the way that I feel. I have endless energy and I sleep two hours a night. I get so much done," as per Variety's report.

The family decides to support Sheila's new desire for human meat by going out and killing people.  However, they make a promise only to kill only those who deserve it. As per Rolling Stone report, Joel says to Sheila in the trailer: "I guess the prototype would be a young, single, Hitler."

The show presents a new look into the family dynamic by adding a dramatic and comedic twist and a light touch of death and cannibalism that is certain to spark viewer interest. If that doesn't get you interested then maybe Drew Barrymore making a smoothie out of body parts then going out for a jog with other suburban moms is something that no other show out there has.
