UFC News: Mark hunt files civil lawsuits against UFC, Brock Lesnar, Dana White

By

Brock Lesnar came out of retirement from the UFC on June 8, 2016, to face Mark Hunt in the Heavyweight Division at UFC200 on July 9 of the same year. The fight went the distance with Lesnar winning by unanimous decision, earning him a hefty $2.5 million purse. It was then later discovered, on two separate drug tests, that Lesnar was using performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) that were banned in the UFC.

An out-of-competition drug test administered June 28 showed Lesnar to have used Clomiphene and 4-Hydroxyclomiphene, while a post-fight drug test also came back positive. However, results of the June 28 drug test were not returned in time for Lesnar to be pulled from the match. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and Nevada Athletic Commission has then since suspended Lesnar for 12 months while the Nevada Commission fined him $250,000, equivalent to 10% of his guaranteed purse.

Earlier this week, Hunt filed a Civil Suit in the U.S. District Court for Nevada, accusing the UFC and its President Dana White of racketeering, fraud, breach of contract and much more. As per Fox Sports, Hunt believes that White "had a strong monetary motive to ensure the 'success' of the landmark UFC 200 event" since UFC was sold to its new owners for over $4 billion following UFC 200.

Hunt's suit also alleges that the UFC had known Lesnar would compete in UFC 200 months before, which would have subjected him to the standard USADA drug testing program. However, Lesnar was granted with a waiver from the four-month rule under paragraph 5.7.1 of the UFC/USADA testing policy - Yahoo! Sports.

In an interview with ESPN.com, Hunt said "I want the UFC to understand it's not OK to keep doing what they're doing. They're allowing guys to do this." He also said "What message is that sending to the boys and girls who want to be a fighter someday? The message is, 'You just have to cheak like this and it's OK.'"

Hunt has been a clean fighter for his 13-year career and has had more than one match with fighters who have been suspended due to illegal substances. Maybe he is has had enough with the way he has been treated, or with how these fighters seem to get off easily despite the UFC boasting of the most comprehensive policies. Whatever his reasons behind this, it seems that Mark Hunt is ready to see this case through, if only to take a stand for what he feels is right.
