It seems like the thin veneer of civility between President Obama and President-elect Donald Trump has a few more cracks in it as Trump tweeted accusing Obama of throwing "inflammatory" roadblocks during the period of presidential transition.
"Doing my best to disregard the many inflammatory President O statements and roadblocks. Thought it was going to be a smooth transition - NOT," he wrote.
Delivered on Wednesday, the latest Twitter tirade criticised the Obama administration's latest moves in regard to Israel and its decision the passing of a UN Security Council resolution that rebuked it over its building of Jewish settlements in Palestinian territories.
"We cannot continue to let Israel be treated with such total disdain and disrespect," he said in a two-part tweet. "They used to have a great friend in the U.S., but ... not anymore. The beginning of the end was the horrible Iran deal, and now this (U.N.)! Stay strong Israel, January 20th is fast approaching!"
According to Independent.UK, Obama said in an interview broadcast earlier this week that he believed he would have been beaten Trump should he is able run for a third term.
Talking to David Axelrod, his friend and former adviser, he said: "I'm confident that if I - if I had run again and articulated it, I think I could've mobilised a majority of the American people to rally behind it."
"I know that in conversations that I've had with people around the country, even some people who disagreed with me, they would say the vision, the direction that you point towards is the right one," he added.
Obama has long said that George W Bush had ensured a smooth transition when he took office in 2009, and he was insistent that his successor receive the same treatment. During their White House meeting on November 10, Obama emphasized to Trump that "we are going to help you succeed because if you succeed, then the country succeeds."
The planned 15-minute meeting turned into a 90-minute private meeting, with Trump afterwards declaring the president a "good man". Trump, at that time also said that he is "very much look forward to dealing with the president in the future." Trump also described the meeting was good, great chemistry and overall a fantastic day on his Twitter.
