After spending years in development hell, the  big screen iteration for Stephen King's The Dark Tower is finally moving forward as filming has finally begun. However, King confirmed that the first film will not be set in the beginning of the story.

As reported by Latino Review,  it was revealed during Sony's presentation at the recent CinemaCon that filming has finally begun for the anticipated flick. Several artworks for the film were presented during the event along with an announcement that other works by King could also have their own live-action version as well if Dark Tower proves to be a success.

Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey  are officially on board as The Gunslinger and  the Man in Black, respectively. Moreover, Movie News Guide reported that Tom Taylor was also recently cast as the boy from the real world, Jake Chambers, as well as Abbey Lee as Tirana.

Official plot details for the film have not been revealed yet but King previously confirmed that it will not start in the beginning of the book series. It is also unknown whether it will base largely from the first book or from the others.

As reported by Movie Web, the extent of the CGI work for the film is under wraps but it is speculated to take a lot of work given the short production schedule. The upcoming film is the latest effort to bring the movie to life after it was put in development hell for several years. Director Ron Howard previously shared his interest in making the film, however, his attempts did not go into fruition.

Nikolaj Arcel is sitting in the director's chair for the upcoming The Dark Tower from screenplay he wrote along with Akiva Goldsman, Anders Thomas Jensen, and Jeff Pinker. It is currently slated to hit theaters in February 17, 2017.
