People braved long lines outside Apple stores worldwide on Friday as the new iPhone 5S & 5C premiered, USA Today reported. Two weeks ago, the Apple company unveiled the two new iPhones at its headquarters in Cupertino California, and for fans of the gadgets, their day is finally here.

The $99 iPhone 5C and ine iPhone 5S went on sale Friday. Its operating system update is reportedly available for free for the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 models, CBS News also reported. The iPhone 5S also contains the "iSight camera" with a special flash designed to improve color balance.

Anaylysts have predicted that the new iPhones will do well, both in the U.S. and abroad Carl Howe, the vice president of research and data sciences at the Yankee Group says the launch may be the biggest in the history of consumer electronics, largely perhaps that the new models are less expensive than usual.

"Rumor has it that they make more money in any of the five stores in China than they do in the Fifth Avenue store in New York. The price of an Apple product is a significant fraction of the average Chinese worker's salary. These devices mostly go to the wealthy," Howe said.

The iPhone 5S is made by aluminum and comes in silver, gold and slate gray, with a fingerpoint sensor for security that Apple calls the touch ID sensor.

Most Apple stores opened at 8 a.m. on Friday. Online sales for the new iPhone models began earlier this week, so savvy consumers have begun toto pick up their new phones from particular wireless carrier stores, such as Best Buy, RadioShack,Target and Wal-Mart stores.

New features of the iPhone 5S contain the "iSight camera" with a special flash designed to improve color balance. The iPhone 5C also comes with with a 4-inch Retina display.
