New characters could join Dominic Toretto and the gang for the upcoming Fast and Furious 8. A new female villain is speculated to make things messier for the group while another female character previously linked to Paul Walker's Brian O'Connor could also make a comeback.

One final trilogy is set to formally close the long-running franchise and as it continues to make progress in pre-production, several names have been speculated to join the cast. Ecumenical News reported that Mad Max: Fury Road actress Charlize Theron is heavily linked to the project although not much has been revealed about her possible role other than she could play as the next female villain.

Justin Bieber is also rumored to enter the franchise as Lucas Black's next racing buddy but initial speculations also stated that he was previously chosen to serve as Paul Walker's replacement. Moreover, as reported by Enstarz, the film is also rumored to opt for a feminist approach which is supported by casting rumors such as those of Helen Mirren and the return of Eva Mendes as Agent Fuentes who previously had a brief romantic history with Walker's Brian O'Conner in the second film.

However, until an official confirmation is released, these rumors must be taken with a grain of salt. The upcoming film is set to be directed by Straight Outta Compton helmer F. Gary Gray. According to Inquistr, not much has been revealed pertaining to the, however, Gray stated that J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been his inspiration for the project.

"When you look at someone like J.J. Abrams who gives you the spectacle and great action set pieces but also gives you character and plotting and narrative, I think it's my job-and my intention-to do both. You amp up everything, you work on the performances, you work on the story, you work on the action; it's just not one thing.", Gray said.

Filming for Fast and Furious 8 will take place in Iceland and New York. It is set to feature the return of Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Jason Statham, and Vin Diesel among many others. The upcoming flick is slated to hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
