'Godzilla vs King Kong' is an upcoming kaiju film scheduled to be released in 2020. It is expected to be one of cinema's greatest monster clashes. A fan trailer for the 2020 film also became viral on YouTube ahead of the scheduled release.
According to The Telegraph, a large number of crossover films will make their way to theaters very soon. This includes the upcoming 'Godzilla vs King Kong' monster movie mashup featuring the battle between two of the most iconic giant monsters in movie history.
The upcoming film joins a line-up of releases that pit two different franchises together including Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' for the DC extended universe, the 'Alien vs Predator' cinematic series, the 'Freddy vs Jason' series as well as the 'Frankenstein vs Wolf Man' film from 1943.
According to NZ Herald, it is also interesting to note that 'Godzilla vs King Kong' first happened on the big screen in 1962 under the legendary Japanese studio Toho. Toho Studios' science-fiction kaiju film was the first time both characters appeared together in film. It was intended as the third installment in the 'Godzilla' cinematic series and became the most commercially successful film in the franchise to date.
The upcoming monster crossover revival is set to be released sometime in 2020 under Legendary Pictures. However, before the movie hits theaters in the near future, Jordan Vogt-Roberts will debut this latest installment in the 'King Kong' cinematic series, 'Kong: Skull Island'. The King Kong standalone film will star Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman and will feature the giant gorilla's origins as well as the creature's fictional home Skull Island.
Godzilla will also get his own standalone film entitled 'Godzilla: Resurgence'. It is scheduled to be released on July 29, 2016 and intended as the 31st film in the franchise. The film is co-directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi based on a screenplay prepared by Anno.
Meanwhile, a fan trailer for 'Godzilla vs King Kong' went viral on YouTube ahead of its planned 2020 release. It featured footage from various films including 1998's 'Godzilla', 2014's rebooted 'Godzilla', 2013's 'Pacific Rim', 2005's 'King Kong' and the original 'Godzilla vs King Kong' film from 1962. It managed to receive over a million views to date.
