'Kingsman: The Secret Service 2' is a planned spy-adventure film starring Taron Egerton as the spy recruit Eggsy Unwin. It is set to feature Halle Berry as a secret agent of the CIA. She is poised to sign a two-picture deal with Fox.
According to Business Standard, Berry is in negotiations to star alongside lead actor Taron Egerton in the second installment in the action-spy adventure film first released in 2014. The Oscar-winning actress is set to bring more female-oriented action to the series as the head of the CIA. News of her involvement comes after Julianna Moore's attachment to the project as the film's latest villain.
The 49-year old former fashion model-turned-award winning actress is best known for her role as Ororo Monroe a.k.a. Storm in Marvel's 'X-Men' cinematic series. She most recently starred in Luis Prieto's action-thriller film, where she also served as executive producer. Berry became the first woman of color to win a Best Actress Academy Award for her performance in 2001's 'Monster's Ball'.
According to another article by Business 2 Community, the actress is reportedly in for a two-picture deal, making it possible for her continuing appearance for a possible third film in the series based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbon's comic book of the same name. It is unclear whether any of the other original cast members will make it on the sequel.
Egerton returns for a second time as Gary "Eggsy" Unwin, a former teenage delinquent turned spy recruit for the mysterious British intelligence organization named Kingsman. His character was first introduced as an unemployed young adult of 17 years living an aimless and rebellious life. He was then recruited, albeit hesitantly, into the secret service by Colin Firth's Harry Hart a.k.a. Galahad after his father, a former candidate for Kingsman, died a heroic death while on the field of duty.
According to Deadline, the first film grossed over $414 million worldwide upon release on February 2015 and was received positively by critics. It also became director Matthew Vaughn's most successful film to date.
'Kingsman: The Secret Service 2' is an upcoming sequel to the action-spy adventure film of the same name released in 2015. It will feature the return of Taron Egerton as the main protagonist Eggsy Unwin. The film is scheduled to be released on June 16, 2017.
