‘San Andreas 2’ Update: Sequel happening with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shaking his way to the Pacific Ring of Fire

By

"San Andreas 2" is happening after 2015's summer disaster film blockbuster success of nearly $500 million. Now, the studio and production team of "San Andreas" have agreed to make a sequel with Dwayne Johnson on board.

Dwayne Johnson won't be hiding himself anytime soon in the big screens as he's gaining a lot of films the next two years, one of which is the newly added sequel, "San Andreas 2". According to News Ledge, Newline and the production team have reached a decision to follow up the 2015 movie. The studio has tapped Neil Widener and Gavin James as the scribe of the sequel. The duo are known to have written "Verona", sold to Sony, and "Battle for Alcatraz", bought by Paramount. The announcement came through with a new story on the table.

With the plot details of the Dwayne Johnson earthquake adventures, Cinema Blend detailed that they are going to ramp up the action on a larger scale. Raymond Gaines is extending his efforts to the Pacific as the story will take him up to the legendary Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is said to be a ring which circles the Pacific Ocean with fault lines and volcanoes and is about the home to 90% of earthquakes in the world. Supposedly this is true, you'll see The Rock handling earthquakes in the Pacific like they're humans.

The upcoming disaster-themed sequel will see the return of the original cast. As written by Slash Film, director Brad Peyton is again at the director's chair to lead the sequel and Beau Flynn will be back as the producer. Of course, the family that needed saving on last year's movie will be returning, including Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario and Paul Giamatti. They are all slated to reprise their respective roles in the "San Andreas 2".

As previously noted, the first film proved to be blockbuster despite being critically reviewed. "San Andreas" showed the impact of "The Big One" in the United States with Raymond Gaines riding a helicopter to save her daughter.

The release date for "San Andreas 2" is yet to be announced, but there will be plenty of "The Rock" films coming up, including "Central Intelligence", "Baywatch", "Rampage", "and Fast 8" which are all slated to debut within the next two years or so.
