Huawei introduces all new Matebook at the MWC 2016 to take on Microsoft's Surface Pro 4

The opening of the MWC event in Barcelona was a success . Microsoft with its Surface Pro 4 tablet planned to awe its fans but Huawei crashed the party and introduced its very own Matebook.

Designed to take the place of laptops, Huawei's Matebook is much thinner than its rivals on the market. According to  Techradar, CEO Richard YU said he wanted to replace the old bulky, thicker laptops which is why they made the Matebook. He added that it will directly be a rival of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the iPad Pro.

Measuring at only 30.5cm and weighing only 640 grams, the device can be attached to a keyboard. It has a screen size of 12 inches and a resolution of 2160X1440 pixels with HD display. Underneath its all metal casing, the Matebook uses Intel's sixth-generation Core M processor. The consumers will have the option of having a 4GB and 8GB of Random Access Memory. The device will be powered by a 33.7 Lithium-ion battery which according experts will last for 10 hours with average use.

The fingerprint scanner is located on the other side of the device while the other side houses the dual speakers, as reported by Design and Trend. The Matebok utilizes the USB-C port to actually keep in with its slim design, but users will have to carry a USB port adapter for them to insert any device that they want into the Matebook. The stylus of the Matebook also has a built-in laser pointer which is a new touch for this category.

According to BBC, the market of the so-called detachable tablets are on the rise. Although many people see the Microsoft Surface 4 to be much bigger and bulkier, it still benefits from having USB ports. Microsoft is looking into doubling its sales last year. According to some experts, the advantage of Microsoft is that it has already established its name in the industry. It also uses the company's business to business channels which Huawei cannot replicate.

The Matebook, on the other hand, is a new player in the industry. It is priced at $699 dollars for the entry level variant,  $100 cheaper than the Surface Pro 4. At the end of the day, it will still be the consumers who will decide on whether Microsoft or Huawei have the upper hand on this closely tied race.
