Samsung Galaxy S7, Edge Release Date, Specs Rumors: Leaked Documents Reveal Huge Battery Capacity, Waterproof Capability and More

By

Samsung Electronics has confirmed that the company will be unveiling its new flagship handsets, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016. Both devices are expected to feature a better battery, waterproof capability and more.

Latinos Post stated on its article that a shipment/import document has been leaked online, suggesting that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have waterproof ratings. Both S7 models were marked as featuring "waterproof" components, such as the SIM tray and microphone.

Citing TechnoBuffalo, the site reported there is no specific mention of an IP67 rating. This was last featured by the South Korean tech company in the Samsung Galaxy S5. The shipping documents could simply indicate that these handsets will have splash-proof ratings. In particular, the Galaxy S7 Edge only listed a single component that is water resistant.

Another interesting feature that's been leaked in documents online comes from the FCC itself. Based on the disclosed FCC papers, which has the battery info screenshot marked with a legitimate FCC ID, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge will have a 3,600mAh battery. This would be an improvement in battery capacity from the Samsung Galaxy S6 of 1,000mAh if the document is proven to be accurate. Then, the Galaxy S7 Edge would be powered by one of the highest capacity batteries available on the market today. If this happens, it would surpass the Nexus 6P's already enormous 3450mAh juice pack. On the other hand, the non-edge variant of the Samsung Galaxy S7 was reported to get a 2,700mAh battery.

Aside from the waterproof capability and battery capacity, a previous report noted that the Samsung Galaxy S7 might sport a 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen, similar to last year's Galaxy S6. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S7 Edge will have a bigger 5.5-inch screen, but both will offer the added bonus of always-on display functionality.

Samsung is also speculated to have a downgrade in the camera department as both handsets are expected to arrive with 12MP rear-facing sensors. It was worth noting that last year's devices house a 16MP sensor. Nonetheless, this will be paired with an f/1.7 lens for better imaging in low light, and will reportedly be flush with the case. Some leaked images also suggest Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to stick to microUSB, contrasting the USB Type-C connection seen on most new models.

When it comes to the price, the 32GB models of the S7 and S7 Edge is expected to be tagged at Euro 699 and 799, respectively. The 64GB version on the other hand, would be around 70-80 more, but this is just an estimate.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge will have its first appearance on February 21, making smartphone fans and consumers really pleased. These handsets are then expected to hit the market shelves on March 11, according to Tech Times.

It may sound exciting, but the above mentioned specs and features are merely based on unconfirmed reports, so it is advised to be taken as a pinch of salt. Nonetheless, the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge is just a few weeks away, so it won't take long for these details to be confirmed.
