‘XXX 3’ official release set 2017; Vin Diesel adds strong female ensemble with Nina Dobrev, Ruby Rose casting?

'XXX 3', or 'XXX: The Return of Xander Cage' is set to premiere sometime in 2017 and will be directed by D.J. Caruso. It will feature Vin Diesel in the titular role. Reports state that Nina Dobrev and Ruby Rose will be joining the new cast of empowered female characters.

According to Business Standard, Nina Dobrev of 'Vampire Diaries' and Ruby Rose of 'Orange Is The New Black' are currently in negotiations to join Vin Diesel in the latest sequel to the XXX film series entitled 'XXX: The Return of Xander Cage'. Dobrev is a well-known television actress with her breakout role in 'Degrassi:

The Next Generation' as Mia Jones and will play a techie in the upcoming XXX sequel. Rose, who rose to prominence as a model and DJ in her home country Australia, earned a spot in the third season on 'Orange Is The New Black' and will play a sniper in 'XXX 3'.

The two are also no strangers to film appearances. Dobrev worked in films such as 'The Roomate', 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower', 'Let's Be Cops' and the 2015 slasher comedy film 'The Final Girls'. Rose is also attached to 'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' and 'John Wick 2'.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Diesel will be making a return to the series as the titular Xander Cage after skipping the 2005 sequel 'XXX: State of the Union', to which Ice Cube took the lead role. Although plot details remain under wraps, the new film will seek to reboot the franchise with new leading ladies as well as villains.

Other actors joining Diesel include Samuel L. Jackson, Jet Li, Conor McGregor, Tony Jaa and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, according to Comingsoon.net. Principal photography is scheduled to begin later in January in Toronto and the Philippines. D.J. Caruso of 'Eagle Eye', 'Disturbia' and 'I Am Number Four' fame is set to helm the film.

'XXX 3', or 'XXX: The Return of Xander Cage' is the third installment in the XXX cinematic series. It will be directed by D.J. Caruso based on a screenplay by John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris. It is scheduled to premiere in 2017.
