‘Transformers 5’ Updates: Michael Bay confirmed to return as director with lead Mark Wahlberg

By

'Transformers 5' is an upcoming science-fiction film intended as the sequel to 2014's 'Transformers: Age of Extinction'. Michael Bay, who directed all previous four films, confirmed that he will return for a fifth time to direct. Leading man Mark Wahlberg has also confirmed his involvement in the new film.

According to /Film, Bay finally confirmed his attachment as director for the newest film in the franchise after months of speculation. He revealed the news during an interview with Rolling Stone. He said, "I'm doing Transformers ... 5, is it... Transformers, I still have a great time. It's fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else."

Another article by Comingsoon, reported that director J.J. Abrams of 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' fame urged Bay to do another film in the series saying that he was the only man for the job. Bay directed the first film 'Transformers' released in 2007 as well as its sequels 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' in 2009, 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' in 2011 and 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' in 2014.

The 50-year old filmmaker is best known for big-budget action films. He previously insisted that 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' would be his last film but returned for the fourth time in 2014.

According to Comicbook, his latest highly-anticipated film is '13 Hours', an action-thriller based on the true story of six members of a security team who fought to defend a diplomatic compound in Benghazi. It is scheduled to be released on January 15, 2016.

He is also set to work as producer for the upcoming 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' sequel 'Out of the Shadows' as well as Mike Flanagan's 'Ouija 2' and James DeMonaco's 'The Purge 3'.

It has been confirmed that Mark Wahlberg will be reprising his role as Cade Yeager. Wahlberg is the newest leading man replacing Shia LaBeouf, who acted as lead protagonist in the first three films.

'Transformers 5' is an upcoming action-adventure and science-fiction film serving as the fifth installment in the highly popular franchise based on the Hasbro and Tomy toys of the same name. The series received mixed reception from critics and audiences alike but nevertheless dominated the box office throughout the years. In total, all past four films earned $3.7 billion worldwide.
