Arrests Made for Suspects of Fatal Eastland Mall Shooting

By

Last December 26, shoppers at the Eastland Mall in Harper Woods were in a panic as gunshots echoed through the halls. Following the attack, one man was found to be fatally shot by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office. The victim was found to be 18-year-old Tyrell Lane, who was shot outside the Burlington Coat Factory store situated on the Eastland Mall on Vernier Road near Eight Mile Road. He was shot around 5:50 PM on Saturday and was rushed to a local hospital, where Lane died of multiple gunshot wounds.

According to witnesses, a group of people were seen fighting inside the mall prior to the shooting. The police, however, are still not sure if the altercation could be linked to the shooting. The entire mall was then placed on lock down for a few hours after the incident.

Earlier reports say that the police had arrested a suspect who was at the scene. They arrested him and took him in to the department for questioning. Early on Sunday, however, the suspect was released pending further investigation.

A few days later and the police have rounded up some suspects and have taken them into custody on Tuesday afternoon. These arrests were made in connection to the fatal shooting that happened at the Eastland Mall a day after Christmas. Despite these arrests, police are seeking help from the public who may have some information on the crime. They are appealing to those who have witnessed the crime to get in touch with the Harper Woods police or Crime Stoppers of Michigan by calling 1-800-SPEAKUP.

Directory of Public Safety Jim Burke says that the detectives are currently continuing their investigation on the homicide. While the police continue with their investigation, they greatly encourage anyone with eye witness information to step up and help give justice to the victim.
