‘Little Mermaid’ Live Action Movie Update: Chloe Moretz won’t have the red hair; Hans Christian Andersen’s version is blonde

Though the actress want to go red, Disney will follow the Hans Christian Anderson's 1837 fairy tale and not the one we all know and love. Disney decided to base the film from the original one for its live action adaptation.

According to Comic Book, Chloë Grace Moretz shared in a recent interview that she really wants to try the red hair but Disney will not allow it. "So, I'll actually have blonde hair," she confessed. The young actress also said to Entertainment Tonight that this film will be a modern version of the tale. She also described the film to be a progress for women's status in today's world.

The plot will still be the same with the Disney one, about a young mermaid who is willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul. However, it's expected that it will have a different take from the famous childhood movie from Disney. Christian Post reported that it made the fans excited when it was announced that the actress will portray the famous red head fairytale character.

The Wrap also said that the movie production is in talks with Rebecca Thomas to direct the film. Though Thomas will direct Paramount's adaptation of John Green's "Looking for Alaska," she has interest in directing the live action of "Little Mermaid". She met with Moretz last last week and the two got close instantly.  The Wrap also stated before that Sofia Coppola was offered to direct the movie first but decline because of creative differences. According to Coppola, as they were nearing with an agreement, what Disney wanted to do with the film was not her style of work therefore she dropped the movie and decided to do something smaller.

The title of the 'Little Mermaid' Live Action movie is still in the works like its script. After screenwriter Richard Curtis finish polishing the script, the filming will start March next year and Moretz might start her underwater training next month.
