Potential Buyers Discover Homeowner's Human Remains in North Carolina Backyard

A potential homebuyer stumbled upon skeletal remains in the backyard of a North Carolina house, prompting a 911 call and investigation.

On July 16, a curious real estate shopper stopped to explore what they believed to be an abandoned property, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office. Behind the house, they discovered what appeared to be decomposing human remains, Hoodline reported. The remains were left in the open and seemingly no attempt had been made to conceal the body.

Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed the remains were human but were initially unable to identify the deceased due to the advanced state of decomposition.

"From the appearance of the body, the person had been deceased for quite a while," Maj. Troy Miller with the sheriff's office told WBTV.

Despite the house's state of disrepair, investigators determined the home was not abandoned. The address belonged to 50-year-old Kevin Scott Queen, who was later identified as the deceased following an autopsy.

Officials announced on July 18 that Queen died of natural causes and that no foul play is suspected.

The case has been closed following confirmation from medical records and the completion of the autopsy. The homebuyer has remained anonymous and any remaining interest in the property has not been made public.
