A late-night Taco Bell run turned into a string of criminal charges for a Kentucky police officer, after authorities say he was caught driving an ATV while intoxicated—with multiple children on board.
Paintsville Police Officer James Bradley (listed in arrest records as "James Bradly") was arrested shortly after midnight Sunday and is facing multiple charges, including DUI, assault of a police officer, endangering the welfare of a minor, and resisting arrest, WYMT reported.
According to the arrest citation, a concerned caller reported seeing an intoxicated individual operating an ATV through the Taco Bell drive-thru with children, open containers, and a cooler in the back. Responding officers observed the ATV "swerving" and failing to obey traffic signals. The vehicle was reportedly carrying five minors and one adult.
Police say Bradley, who was off-duty at the time, showed visible signs of impairment, including slurred speech and the smell of alcohol. He admitted to drinking earlier in the evening and reportedly failed field sobriety tests.
Bradley became belligerent at Painsville ARH hospital where he refused to cooperate with officers during a court-ordered blood draw. He allegedly resisted, "shoulder checked" officers, and used profanities. According to court documents, at one point, he fell while trying to stand on a hospital bed, striking both officers.
Eventually the blood test was completed and Bradley was booked into the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center. Paintsville Police Chief Danny Smith declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation.
