Before his execution in Oklahoma, a convicted killer who once requested the death penalty during his confession, chose a final meal that included bacon and soda.

Wendell Arden Grissom, 56, was sentenced to death for the 2005 home invasion murder of 23-year-old Amber Dawn Matthews in Blaine County, according to USA Today.

Hours before his execution on Thursday, Grissom was served his last meal—a medium thick-crust Canadian bacon supreme pizza, a pint of vanilla ice cream, and a pint of Coca-Cola.

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections confirmed the details of his meal, a ritual that remains one of the final acts before an inmate's execution.

Grissom was pronounced dead at 10:13 a.m. after receiving a lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary. His execution was witnessed by the victim's family, prison officials, and members of the media.

Some relatives of the victim expressed relief that justice had been served, while others found little solace in the event.
