Buyers who purchase a home at auction expect to encounter any number of issues in exchange for a low price—but finding a dead body is not something most real estate investors are prepared for.

Real estate investor and TikToker @mattyice0296 has been documenting the cleanup process of a house he bought at auction. The home's previous occupant seems to have struggled with hoarding, as evidenced by footage of the floor blanketed in trash and neglected belongings.

"So this is my house I bought on Friday at auction," he began in a video posted March 14. "We just started to clean it out and found something I've never found before at a house," he said as the camera panned to human remains amidst piles of junk. "This is freaking wild. Guess I gotta call the police now."

Authorities, including the police, fire department, and coroner's office, arrived at the scene to recover the remains. The homeowner was asked to pause cleanup while the investigation continued. "The detective asked that we not enter the house. We boarded it back up," he said. Disturbingly, the coroner also noted that one of the body's arms was missing, though an animal is suspected to have been responsible.

In an update provided Monday, the TikToker revealed that the coroner identified the remains as belonging to a friend of the former homeowner, whom he suspected may have been a romantic partner—though the coroner did not reveal further details of the relationship.

As the buyer resumes work on the property, this may be a rare case where residents gratefully welcome a construction project in their neighborhood.
