A Tennessee man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly admitting to strangling his pregnant girlfriend, whose body was discovered in their home.

The victim, Ariel Nevills, a 30-year-old Army reservist and millwright from Indiana, was in a relationship with 29-year-old Vidol Wegner, according to People.

On January 20, Wegner reportedly called Maury County, Tennessee, authorities after the incident. Wegner allegedly told police he killed Nevills and her unborn child after a disagreement about her pregnancy.

According to police, Wegner confessed to strangling Nevills in two different ways to ensure her death, later justifying his actions by claiming in a jailhouse interview that Nevills "chose this."

"No, dude, I didn't. She did it to herself," Wegner reportedly told authorities. "I told her this is the way. I had a beautiful future set up for us. She wanted to act crazy. She chose this. It didn't have to be this way."

Nevills was ten weeks pregnant at the time of her death. Wegner faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony murder and is scheduled to appear in court on February 3.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Nevills' family and community continue to grieve her loss while advocating for justice.
