The parents of an inmate at Indian Creek Correctional Center in Chesapeake, Virginia, and a former corrections officer were accused of attempting to smuggle hundreds of thousands dollars worth of narcotics into the correctional center.

Betty Jo Hoyer, of Chesapeake, and Michael Norman Hoyer, of Norfolk, were visiting their son when they allegedly sneaked in large amounts of contraband, including Buprenorphine, a narcotic, tobacco, Naloxone strips, traditionally used to treat opioid overdoses and worth an estimated $200,000, and $10,000 worth of methamphetamine, according to reporting by WRIC.

The contraband was only found after a department investigation led to the couple admitting they had smuggled it.

Both parents face felony charges of delivery of drugs to an inmate, with additional charges pending, WRIC reported.

The investigation revealed Krystal Shannon Clay, a former corrections officer, was also involved in the scheme. She was arrested and charged with delivery of drugs to an inmate.
