A mother who allegedly tried to strangle her teenage daughter in an "honor killing" for not agreeing to an arranged marriage was arrested trying to escape at the U.S.-Canada border.

Zahraa Subhi Mohsin, 40, attempted to flee to Canada after she was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and assault for attacking her 17-year-old daughter outside a Washington high school in October, Daily Mail revealed.

Mohsin and her husband, Ihsan, had allegedly been threatening their daughter with an "honor killing" for refusing their arranged marriage proposal to an older man, FOX 13 reported. They then allegedly attacked the girl outside her high school.

A video appeared to show Ihsan holding down his daughter in a chokehold for a minute while her classmates attempted to free her. When they succeeded, the girl's mother also tried choking her daughter until she too was restrained.

The girl suffered burst blood vessels in her eyes and abrasion to her shoulders, according to the Daily Mail.

Ihsan was arrested at the scene but his wife was not detained until her passport was flagged at the Canadian border. She had dropped off her kids with their uncle right across the border and was on a return trip when she was caught, according to the Daily Mail.

Ihsan was not initially charged with attempted murder and was released from jail after posting a $150,000 bond but re-arrested after a second-degree attempted murder charge was added on Nov. 5. His wife was charged with attempted murder and held on $500,000 bail.

The couple remain in jail.
