Luigi Mangione, the suspected killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, is in federal custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a jail notorious for its high-profile visitors.

Mangione was extradited to Manhattan from Pennsylvania on Thursday to stand trial for the criminal charges being levied against him, one of which carries a maximum sentence of the death penalty, reported ABC 11.

The detention center Mangione is being held in is also actively holding disgraced rapper and producer Sean "Diddy" Combs. Past celebrity inmates include singer R. Kelly, rapper Fetty Wap and socialite Ghislaine Maxwell.

Sam Bankman-Fried, an entrepreneur convicted of fraud and other crimes, was also held at the detention center, as reported by CBS News.

In a notebook law enforcement allegedly seized from Mangione, the 26-year-old reportedly described the plot to assassinate Thompson weeks before he committed the act. The book's entries also reveal that Mangione allegedly traveled to Georgia in pursuit of Thompson, and that his reason for acting out against the healthcare industry was because "it checked every box".

"The target is insurance" because "it checks every box," an entry from the notebook stated, according to ABC News.

The federal complaint against Mangione obtained by the outlet allowed for the release of previously unseen excerpts from the notebook, writings which authorities say "express hostility towards the health insurance industry and wealthy executives in particular."

The complaint reveals an entry dated Aug. 15, 2024, which said "the details are finally coming together," and, "I'm glad -- in a way -- that I've procrastinated, bc (because) it allowed me to learn more about (acronym for Company-1)."

The complaint was unsealed on Thursday, just hours before Mangione appeared before Magistrate Judge Katharine Parker in federal court.

Mangione did not enter a plea, and his lawyer said he would not contest pre-trial detention.

"We're going to respectfully decline to make any comment at this time, but Mr. Mangione appreciates everyone's support. Thank you so much," defense attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo told journalists, according to CBS News.
