A Michigan man who allegedly shot his mother to death left an ominous voicemail for his neighbor before gunning him down in the driveway, say cops.

Roger Albert Schweda, 40, has been charged with two counts of open murder and a firearms offense in connection with the deaths of his mother, Shari Schweda, 70, and neighbor, Thomas Farnsworth, 57, according to police in Leoni Township, Michigan, MLive, WILX-TV and WLNS-TV reported.

It's unclear if he entered pleas to the charges.

The investigation into the double homicide began Saturday when Farnsworth allegedly received a mysterious voicemail from Schweda stating he couldn't go inside his home because his mother was dead, said police, according to the outlets.

A concerned Farnsworth called 911 to request a welfare check. While on the line with dispatch, Farnsworth went outside to confirm the Schwedas address when the shooter allegedly pulled up into the driveway and fatally shot the victim.

The 911 call taker alleged they heard a gunshot and Farnsworth became unresponsive afterward, according to police.

Responding officers allegedly found Shari dead in her bedroom in what they described to be a "gruesome scene," prosecutors said at Schweda's Monday arraignment, citing the police report, WILX reported. Farnsworth's body was purportedly discovered in the driveway.

Schweda was denied bond and ordered to a competency test.

He is due back in court Jan. 3.
