Authorities arrested a Florida man accused of trying to set a fellow hospital patient on fire with a cigarette lighter.

Gary Yuen, 63, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree arson, and burglary, according to jail records.

He was arrested Friday at Miami's Mercy Hospital where he was receiving treatment. It's unclear if he entered pleas to the charges.

Surveillance footage allegedly showed Yuen exiting his room and entering the room of a female patient using an oxygen tank, where he purportedly lit two pillows on fire and attempted to set fire to the victim who was subsequently able to escape, according to detectives, WPLG-TV and WTVJ-TV reported.

When first responders arrived, hospital staff told them Yuen was missing. He was found hiding out in a bathroom during a sweep of the fifth floor.

Yuen allegedly resisted rescue and told firefighters he wanted to die before he fell unconscious from the smoke, said police, the outlets reported.

A cigarette lighter was recovered from the scene.

The relationship between the victim and suspect is unclear and a motive remains under investigation.
