An American man was killed during a street robbery in Guadalajara outside a restaurant located in Colonia Americana, a trendy neighborhood that's popular with tourists.

According to state authorities, the 32-year-old man was shot after being assaulted by two men and a woman. The suspects stole a high-end watch from the victim before killing him and fleeing in a taxi.

Guadalajara police told local media that the family members of the victim were in shock, which is why authorities haven't been able to obtain more information about the deceased. Per authorities, the suspects have yet to be identified.

According to Infobae Mexico, a total of 903 homicides occurred in Guadalajara between 2021 and 2023. The city has reported around 95 homicides in October alone.

Despite the fact that most victims of violent crime in Mexico are Mexican, the U.S. State Department warns tourists crimes such as "homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery – [are] widespread and common in Mexico."

Mexico continues to be one of the world's top tourism destinations. Over 75 million tourists visited Mexico in 2023, spending a record-breaking $30 billion, according to Forbes.
