A Texas police officer survived a brutal, execution-style attack that claimed her sight—but as her family prays "for a miracle", they're also racing against time to raise the support she needs to rebuild her life.

Karissa David, 27, a Senior Corporal in the Dallas Police Department, was one of three police officers involved in a tragic shooting in August.

David, who had responded to the scene of a shooting on August 29 where a suspect allegedly shot and killed a fellow officer, was also shot in what authorities have called a targeted attack.

As a result of her injuries, David is now blind in both eyes.

Her family has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help fund her recovery. "Money that comes in will be used for modifications to their home, technology and devices that will aid her in living without her vision, and transportation to the therapies and care she needs," her family wrote.

The campaign has raised $88,534 out of the $100,000 donation goal.

In a recent update, David's family revealed Karissa has since been released from the hospital but faces months of outpatient care, including surgery.
