Trump Refuses to Testify Again in NY Fraud Case – Claims He's Said Enough

By

In an unexpected weekend turnaround, ex-President Trump communicated he won't revisit the witness rack in his ongoing New York fraud trial. Utilizing his Truth Social platform, he argued that his previous testimony was comprehensive, thus negating the need for further input.

Opting Out of Further Defense Testimony

Trump was set to resume his defense testimony on Monday as the two-month trial enters its final stages. With prior experience in the hot seat under the scrutiny of New York's attorney generals, Trump wanted to dispel the judge's assertion of infringing upon a gag order.

His Sunday post on Truth Social, however, took a dramatic turn. Trump endeavored to portray this trial as a continuation of alleged political attacks on him, explicitly targeting President Biden. He also cited the incontrovertible evidence their final expert witness offered, leading to his resolution to not testify anew on Monday.

Stepping Away from the Judge's Gag Order

Following the social media communique, one of Trump's legal aides, Chris Kise, affirmed the sentiment, but with an added twist - the judge's alleged imposition of an unconstitutional gag order. As per Kise, Trump had said his piece on the financial dealings under question and had nothing new to offer to the seemingly unresponsive judge.

Unveiling the Political Allegations

Throughout the proceedings, Trump lambasted the lawsuit as a politically motivated endeavor orchestrated by President Biden, concluding that the judge and the principal clerk were swayed by political bias. These accusations have been vehemently denied by the New York state officials behind the lawsuit.

Allegations Against Trump Organization

The lawsuit instigated by New York AG Letitia James (D) in question demands a hefty sum of $250 million over fraudulent activities spanning ten years. The allegation includes artificially adjusting the Trump Organization's assets to acquire lower taxes and better insurance terms. Trump and his sons, however, have denied these claims.

Letitia James's Stand

In response to Trump's refusal to offer further testimony, James said on Sunday that the legal proceedings had amassed enough evidence proving years of fiscal fraud. She disregarded Trump's attempts to derail the lawsuit by casting aspersions on the prosecution and insisted, "The facts don't lie."

Unseen Testimonies

Initially, Trump's forthcoming Monday testimony was expected to provide the closing statement on his defense against a decade-long fraud accusation. During his previous stand, he defended his business practices and downplayed the key financial facets of the trial.

In their testimonies, Trump's adult sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, distanced themselves from the Trump Organization's financial documents. Eric later withdrew his slated testimony for the defense, declaring his input unnecessary post-testimonies from Deutsche Bank representatives.

The Defense's Strategy and James's Counter

The defense team initiated their arguments in mid-November, calling upon several witnesses. Ironically, James suggested that these witnesses provided evidence that bolstered the prosecution's case.

She pointed out that an expert witness had conceded to the irregularity and ineptness of some property valuations on Trump's financial statement. Another witness, she said, had admitted to being personally asked by Trump to support his case - an apparent conflict of interest.

James ended last week's proceedings with a video message condemning Trump's continued attempts at misdirection. Upholding her commitment to the truth, she retaliated to Trump's name-calling and affirmed confidence in the judge's quest for facts.
