'The Oscars' 2017 Takes 'La La Land' On Centerstage, Nominations Bring Some Big Surprises

By

The Oscar nominations are in and there are surprises that can be expected from the results. The list is diverse and brings in chances to other films that are out.

A report in Vox indicates that the lists for the Oscar nominations are varied. "La La Land" has the most nominations this time. It got 14 nominations including actors, screenplay and technical category. The film also has a nomination for its director. Other than that, it also has been nominated for Best Picture and its Visual Effects.

"La La Land" has now joined the elite group with the same number of nominations. In 1950, "All About Eve" received the same number of nominations for the Oscars and "Titanic" which also has the same number as the two films. "Titanic" had these nominations in 1997.

While there are surprises for a film to get an Oscar nomination, there are also those that have been snubbed with the award. "Deadpool" has the least nominations this time according to a report in Variety. The film that stars Ryan Reynolds ended up with a few nominations compared to "Suicide Squad" which has been nominated for best make-up and "Doctor Strange" for visual effects.

The surprise Oscar nomination goes out to Ruth Negga of the film "Loving." She has been nominated for the best actress category. Michael Shannon also has been nominated for the best-supporting actor category for the film Nocturnal animals. A big surprise also goes out to Mel Gibson who has been nominated for the best director category for his film "Hacksaw Ridge."

Meanwhile, a report unlike the first installment "Finding Nemo," "Finding Dory" has been overlooked this time in favor of "Zootopia" and "Moana" for the best animated film category. In the meantime, Los Angeles Times indicates that Meryl Streep just got her 20th Oscar nomination for the best actress category.

The list can go on and there are more surprises in store. In the meantime, the Oscar's ceremony happens on Feb. 26.
