Apple To Introduce Night Shift, A Feature That Reduces Blue Light Emission Of Computer Monitors

By

Don't be deceived by its name. This is not a software that only works at night. However, it does help night workers have less strain in their eyes. Apple is set to introduce the Night Shift feature that will help protect their eyes from the blue light.

The Night Shift feature is set to be released on laptops and desktops through the latest version of MacOS Sierra. Night Shift limits the amount of blue light emitted by your computer's monitor. As reported by Gizmodo, this feature generates a yellow hue in the evening resulting in less strain on the eyes.

However, the program is still in beta mode and will only be available to developers. Apple, however, will make the feature available to the public very soon. According to the website of YouTech News, the blue light reduction capability of Night Shift is no longer new. It was first used by the app F lux. It was very popular on almost every platform and was available to both iOS and MacOS users before it was removed from the App Store in mid-2016.

In an article that appeared in Tech Radar, Night Shift works by changing the color temperature of your laptop or desktop's display so it can reduce sleeplessness which is believed to be the cause of sleep reduction. When activated, Night Shift turns the color of your monitor to reddish-orange.

Blue light is said to disrupt the user's sleep by reducing the alertness of the brain. It can affect a person's circadian rhythm making sleep difficult. Night Shift was a feature available to iPhone and iPad last year when it was integrated with iOS 9.3. Amazon introduced a similar feature for its Fire tablets through Blue Shade.

Since Apple just released a new version of the macSierra this week, it might take a while before Night Shift becomes available to users.
