Protesters Arrested During North Carolina 'Bathroom Bill' Demonstration

By

A recent arrest of more than 50 people rattled North Carolina, related to the highly intriguing bathroom bill. Those that aimed to protest and express their ideas towards the bill were scattered all around the North Carolina statehouse, which the authorities did not take too lightly.

According to CNN, the alleged HB2 bill that was passed last month, in definition, is a rule that bans transgender people from making use of the bathroom that they identify with and not the biological gender. It also limits state protection for people of LGBT, and is even known as an 'anti-gay, hate bill'.

Democrats, however, filed a repeal bill against the Republican-made law last April 25 that stirred up groups of demonstrators that side on both the pro and against the original bill. Such people amounted to about 1,200 on the day itself with the police needing to put down offenders and aggressive protesters while it went on, as per WCVB.

As per International Business Times, Reverend William Barber, President of North Carolina NAACP, stated that the bill affected the whole LGBT community and was quoted, "We made a mistake when we call it the 'bathroom bill'. It's an anti-worker bill. It's an anti-family bill. It's an anti-civil rights protection bill. It's an anti-gay bill."

The said incidents affected even the supposed shows of celebrities such as Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas, who officially cancelled their appearances in North Carolina due to the bill. It was said to have reversed the supposed minimal protection offered to people of the LGBT.

Generally, the law cordially prevents transgender individuals who have not medically or legally changed their gender from using the bathroom that matches their gender identity. It also excludes the LGBT community from state protection against discrimination.

To make things worse for the patrons, the legalities implied around gay people are still tolerated, such as firing someone simply because they are homosexual; which clearly states that homosexuals are not at all protected from the state.
