Former Disney stars Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato decided to cancel their shows in North Carolina due to the ongoing LGBT rights protests against a state discriminatory law. The pair released a joint statement regarding the cancellation on social media on Monday.

The concert shows are set in Raleigh and Charlotte this month led by singers Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato. The events aim to "allow every person to feel equal, included and accepted," according to the joint statement issued by the singers via Twitter, Omaha.com reported. The singers expressed their disappointment over the cancellation and to the North Carolina new law that eliminates local protection for LGBT people, specifically when it comes to bathroom usage.

Jonas and Lovato were not the only ones who cancelled out their shows due to the ongoing LGBT rights protests. Bruce Springsteen, Mumford and Sons, Pearl Jam, Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil were the performers who also made the same decision.

Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato, who are both part of the Honda Civic Tour: Future Now, asked their fans to support the LGBT community on their protests, telling them to "stand united with us against this hateful law," Time cited.

The HB2 law has been greatly protested by the LGBT people due to its requirement that transgenders must use bathrooms according to their gender on birth certificates. Both singers wrote on the statement that the said law, "takes away some of the LGBT community's most basic rights and protections."

They also included "#RepealHB2" hashtag. Jonas and the "Confident" singer are set to appear in Charlotte on June 30thand in Raleigh on July 2nd , according to Daily Mail.

The Republican governor of North Carolina, Pat McCrory, signed the HB2 law last month.

Demi Lovato has recently accepted an award from Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation or GLAAD which is usually given to a member of the entertainment community, who recognizes their efforts to make changes in promoting LGBT rights.
