Kansas State University Faces Lawsuits for Not Investigating Off-Campus Rape Cases

By

Kansas State University received two files of federal lawsuits recently, claiming that the school failed to provide investigations for two students that were allegedly raped at off-campus fraternities. The school also did not swallow the matter too lightly with their take on defense against the lawsuits.

As delivered by New York Times, the lawsuits that were filed in U.S. District Court in Kansas stated that the university violated the women's rights under Title IX, one particular law that bars any act of sexual discrimination in education. In the defense of Kansas State, the school did not investigate the aforementioned reports of rape due to the fact that the fraternities were off campus as the lawsuits say.

According to KSN, Kansas State was quoted on a recent statement saying, "The university has a strong policy prohibiting discrimination, including sexual violence, and provides a multitude of resources and assistance to students and employees." In relation to such, one woman attested that she was raped by two Kansas State students last April 2014 at a fraternity event, and once more at a fraternity house. There were about fifteen students that witnessed one of the said attacks and even posted social media proof via pictures and footages.

Another woman, as per Reuters, said she was raped in March of 2015 at a fraternity house. The identical variable for both incidents noted that the two scenarios occurred to the victims post to them passing out from alcohol consumption.

Because of the refusal to investigate the proposed attacks on the two women and the rest of the fraternity rape cases, Kansas State is now as well being investigated by the U.S. Department of Education. Washington attorney Cari Simon of the Fierberg National Law Group filed the lawsuits and is aiming to be provided compensatory damages. Sadly, the fraternities were not named, with the school requested to revise its policies in order to adhere with the Title IX matters.
