Ched Evans rape case update: Convicted footie star about to hear outcome of his appeal

By

Convicted rapist Ched Evans is about to hear the decision of the three judges of Court Appeals in his petition for a re-trial against his rape conviction. His girlfriend Natasha Massey is reportedly accompanying him as they presumably head to London for the hearing.

According to Daily Star, the former Sheffield United and Wales striker is about to hear the verdict of his appeal for a retrial against his rape conviction. Three Court of Appeals judges will announce their decision following appeal proceedings last month. They could quash the conviction, uphold it or order for a retrial.

Daily Mail reports that the footie star was seen carrying suit to a car presumably ready to head to south. In the photographs released, Evans is accompanied by his girlfriend, Natasha Massey, along with the couple's baby.

Massey, who stood by his side since the incident, is accompanying his boyfriend to London for the hearing. As seen in the photo, they are heading to the court in a 4x4 car.

Despite his denial on the crime saying the girl consented to sex, Evans was convicted and imprisoned for 5 years in May 2012 for raping a 19 year old woman in a hotel in Rhyl, North Wales. After serving half of his sentence, he was released on license in October 2014.

Sky News cites that Evans tried to return to football field after his career ended during his conviction. Although he was allowed by Sheffield United to use the facilities, Evans stayed away from the club after it was hit by criticism and public backlash with high profile supporters who threatened to pull out from the football club.

The rape victim was forced to move to different houses and change her identity as she has been repeatedly targeted by social media trolls.

The three judges, Lady Justice Hallett, Mr Justice Flaux and Sir David Maddison will announce their decision on Ched Evans' appeal. If Evans will win, the prosecutors will seek a retrial.
