President Obama Urges More Consumer Choices for Cable Boxes

By

President Barrack Obama declared that cable TV boxes are to welcome a new decision that will have their respective companies, perhaps, market in a different way. The president, in a nutshell, stated that he officially urges better competition amongst cable providers and be more adaptive to promote their contents.

According to Reuters, it became a heavy deal for consumers to continue purchasing a bulky box for the provisions of cable entertainment, but as time went on, The Federal Communications Commission has seen one plot that will make it somewhat easier to buy the devices. They estimated a cost of over $231 a year at least to rent the these boxes simply for the convenience, which in other words, would have TV channels sell content to third party ends such as Google and those who would sell devices.

As per NPR, President Obama was quoted, "The cable or satellite box is just one example of an area where because it's been tied to the provider and you rent it and consumers spend billions of dollars on this every single year, there hasn't been much innovation.

And so the FCC is looking, independently of anything we do here at the White House, at whether it makes sense to open that up to competition. Across the board, if we have more players who can potentially participate, fewer barriers to entry, the rules aren't rigged, then you get more people trying to get your business and you get better products at cheaper prices."

President Obama encourages other related companies to participate in making more accessible devices or services that will enable the consumers to obtain video services from providers. Such include the likes of Alphabet Inc's Google, Apple Inc and TiVo Inc instead of simply cable, satellite and other television providers namely, Comcast Corp and Verizon Communications, as noted by Boston Globe.

The said rule for cable boxes was not clarified whether to take place before or after President Obama leaves office on January. Naturally, cable and television companies find the proposal quite preposterous on many accounts.
