Georgia state representative Arrested for Speeding and Drunk Driving with Four Juveniles in his Car

A Georgia state representative was arrested and charged for drunk driving. He was also charged for driving speeding with four teens in his car. The state official said he deeply regret his actions.

Tom Taylor, who was a Dunwoody Republican was pulled over by law enforcers for speeding on 7th of April in Rabun County, ABC News reported. Taylor was charged for speeding while driving under the influence of alcohol after the officers found he had a blood-alcohol content of .225.

According to the authorities, police found a gun on his hip, which he was carrying legally and four juveniles in his SUV. They pulled him over around 2:45 pm for driving 72 mph in a 45 mph zone. The juveniles in his car were not identified.

Clayton Officer Michael Bennett described Taylor's state when they arrested him. Bennett reported, the state official "smell an overwhelming odor of alcohol, and describe his face as very red and has bloodshot eyes, Reporter Newpapers cited. Taylor denied that he had anything to drink to the officers.

Taylor gave permission to search his car, officers found an empty water bottle "which smelled of alcoholic beverage," and was charged with possession of an open container of alcohol, according to the police report.

The Georgia state representative, who was elected to the state House of Representatives in 2010, issued a statement regarding the incident. "I profoundly regret this serious mistake. There's no one to blame but me, and I greatly appreciate the professionalism of the officers involved. This was my first run-in with the law in my life, and it will also be my last," AJC.com quoted.

He added, he will work to restore the trust of the people in his district.Taylor, chairman of the joint House-Senate committee that oversees MARTA, faces Tom Owens in the May 24 Republican primary for House District 79.
