Attack In Riverside Park: Homeless Man Stabs Five People With Scissors On Manhattan’s Upper West Side (Video)

By

Julius Graham, a deranged and homeless man, went on a stabbing spree along a bike path on the Upper West Side's Riverside Park in Manhattan on Tuesday morning, slashing five people with scissors, including a 1-year-old boy, The Christian Science Monitor reported.

All the victims were expected to survive, but one was listed in critical condition.

Graham randomly stabbed or slashed the five people in less than 10 minutes, The New York Times reported. He was arrested after a bystander wrestled him to the ground, keeping him subdued before police arrived.

At about 7:55 a.m, Graham stabbed a 36-year-old woman in the back while she was jogging under some trees on a riverside path, news reports said. Minutes later, he stabbed a man walking his dog. Graham then stabbed another female jogger in the neck, New York Police Commisioner Ray Kelly described.

"He continues to move south and a little east when he encounters a man with a stroller with his 2-year-old son. He slashes that man in the chest as the man is attempting to protect his son, and his son is slashed on the arm," Kelly said.

After the fifth attack, a bystander who saw a father being attacked, confronted Graham and was able to wrestle him to the ground, and kept him subdued until the NYPD arrived.

Graham reportedly had been living in a homeless shelter in the Bronx, but was found carrying identification from Texas, Kelly said.

On Tuesday night, a hospital spokeswoman said that two stabbing victims there were in critical condition. All five victims were expected to survive, the authorities said.
