Overwatch: Beta Update Features Detailed; Weekly Brawl and Route 66 Recapped by Blizzard

By

Overwatch's beta announced a few more details on itself. There are a few tweaks to take note of in terms of characters, plus an unconventional patch note that could do the game good, namely the Weekly Brawl and a certain new map aptly named Route 66.

According to Hardcore Gamer, the aforementioned Weekly Brawl feature is somewhat based on Hearthstone's regular battle events in which Blizzard Entertainment says to be an enjoyable way to play Overwatch. This approach is quite an attention catcher as the developer claims, especially with a unique set of rules each time.

PC Gamer noted that there will be a unique set of rules for each week, sometimes beyond reasonable. An example states that in one Weekly Brawl, there will be a random hero to be selected for the player each time gamers re-spawn, and in the next week, players will only be able to play Soldier: 76, and so on. At some point, gamers might also be able to experience having Support Heroes only, Tank Heroes only, Defense Heroes only and so on.

It was noted by Game Spot that ahead of the game's launch, a test will be conducted once per day instead of once a week for the gameplay mode. As for the Route 66, Blizzard gave the description, stating, "Though the travelers and road trippers who used to cross the US on historic Route 66 are gone, the Main Street of America still stands, a testament to a simpler time. The gas stations, roadside shops, and cafes have gone into disuse, and the fabled Deadlock Gorge is mostly seen from the comfort of transcontinental train cars. But amid the fading monuments of that earlier era, the outlaws of the Deadlock Gang are planning their biggest heist yet."

Blizzard Entertainment's Overwatch beta is set to run from May 5th to the 9th. It is to be made available to the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and the full Overwatch game will be released on May 24th.
