Sony Xperia Z Gets Android 5.1.1 Lollipop via Dirty Unicorns Custom Firmware: Update Guide

Sony Xperia Z is the latest device to receive software support for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop via Dirty Unicorns custom firmware. Dirty Unicorns comes with tweaks and exclusive features.

Sony Xperia Z can now experience a good number of modification options with Dirty Unicorns custom ROM based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Dirty Unicorns will offer exclusive custom features and enhancements that were originally ported from LG phones.

Installing custom firmware voids warranty of device. Interested device owners are encouraged to take responsibility over their phones. Thus, any damage transpired with the device cannot be held against this site or the ROM's developers. Most importantly, be reminded not to use this ROM to any device not prescribed.

To install Dirty Unicorns on Sony Xperia Z, here's a quick guide

1. Download on PC the Android 6.0.1 Dirty Unicorn ROM here and GApps here.

2. Connect phone to PC using the USB cable.

3. Copy then paste downloaded ROM to phone's memory or SD card.

4. Switch off phone and plug it out from the PC.

5. Go to Recovery Mode by press holding volume up, home and power buttons.

6. Choose 'Wipe' to delete of data and 'Swipe to Factory Reset'.

7. Go to main menu and choose 'Install'. Choose the copied ZIP file on the phone.

8. Choose 'Swipe to Confirm Flash'.

9. Wait for the installation to complete.

10. When phone gets into any boot loops or other troubles, tap 'Wipe cache/dalvik' button.

11. Choose 'Reboot System'.

Check the software version of the device on Settings > About phone.
