Hulk Hogan seeks $100 milion for sex tape scandal, claims video roiled his personal and professional life

By

American professional wrestler and actor Hulk Hogan is seeking $100 million in damages from online website Gawker. The website was accused of publishing the sex tape of the pro wrestler which was said to be recorded secretly.

The website was reportedly the one responsible for the publication of Hogan's sex video with his best friend's wife. The wrestler claimed that he was completely humiliated and the embarrassment was both personal and professional, also affecting his character as a pro-wrestler.

According to CBS News, Hogan whose real name is Terry Bollea, chalked up the inconstistencies to being shell-shocked by the tape and because he routinely puts himself in his wrestling character. The 62-year-old star called his character in wrestling a total opposite of what he is in real life which is soft-spoken and non-argumentative.

Hogan's lawyer said that his client expected privacy in a private bedroom and the video was filmed without his knowledge.  The legal counsel added that Gawker's motivation in doing this is fueled by power and brand promotion. But Gawker's attorney argued that the wrestler knew that there were cameras in his friend's house, as per Reuters.

New York Times added that when Hogan knew his friend's voice could be heard at the end of the tape suggesting to his wife that they would be able to retire once they get the money from selling the video, his  hands just started shaking.

Mike Berry, the company's attorney said his client believes that this type of reporting is important. He added that these topics are important to the outlet because they are known for gossip and media reporting. A loss in this trial could, however, bankrupt the company. The company's legal aid, though, is willing to appeal in case an unfavorable verdict will be given to them.
