Madonna and Guy Ritchie about to settle contentious custody battle over son Rocco

By

After months of flinging accusations against each other, pop diva Madonna and ex-husband, movie director Guy Ritchie, are coming close to a deal as to who would have final custody over their 15-year-old son Rocco. Any settlement will also determine whether the boy will continue to live with his father in London or move back to his mother in New York.

According to Fox News, a source leaked that Madonna is resigned that Rocco might finally stay with Ritchie. However, she might negotiate for a weekend visit with him every month.

The New Indian Express gives more details about the case. Along with his three siblings, Rocco was accompanying his mother during her Rebel Heart intercontinental tour, which started last September 2015. The "Material Girl" had regaled thousands of her fans in concert halls in the US, Canada, Europe, South America, and Asia. New Zealand was the last stop this weekend.

While in Europe, Rocco decided to stay with Ritchie instead of continuing with the tour, which violated the terms of agreements of his parents' divorce. Judge Deborah Kaplan in Manhattan ruled on December 2015 that Rocco should "revisit" his arrangements with his parents.

Fox News continues that, things heated up last week when Madonna asked Kaplan to cite Ritchie for contempt, for allegedly refusing to bring Rocco to the United States while the couple was settling the dispute.

Kaplan, however, dismissed the request and instead fired off an admonition to both parents to keep out their son from the public spotlight. She said, that while "the couple may welcome the publicity, but the child has not. He would like this matter resolved, and the issues concerning him and his family, in the most private way possible."

Due to their extensive work-related travel, Madonna and Ritchie both attended the court proceedings using a video link.

People elaborates that their opposing parenting styles are one source of contention between the couple who divorced in 2008. Madonna accused that Ritchie's lack of guidance exposed Rocco unnecessarily to the paparazzi. On the other hand, Ritchie countered that Madonna's strictness was dampening the boy's self-confidence.

If the deal does not push through, Madonna and Ritchie will meet again in court on June 1.
