Singer Don McLean Plead Not Guilty to Other Additional Domestic Violence Charges

The "American Pie" hit singer Don McLean took a not guilty plea to the additional charges filed against him, following his domestic violence case. The singer is apparently facing a total of six charges stemming from his first domestic violence case accused by his wife.

According to BBC News, a court trial has been held on Monday for the said case however, Don McLean choose not to appear on the proceeding. His representing attorney said the 70-year old singer pleaded not guilty to all the six charges, including his domestic violence assault charge.

The singer was arrested on January 18 on Camden, Maine after his wife filed the said charge. McLean's wife also submitted a handwritten request to protect herself after the singer's arrest. His wife called the police and reported she was terrorized by the singer for four hours.

According to McLean's statement on Monday, he said the additional charges do not change his position of being not guilty. He added, the case his going through is a tragedy for his family and especially for his wife, NME reported.

It was also now reported that his wife's restraining order filed against him has been dismissed by the court, according to Portland Press Herald. On his recent post on Twitter, the singer said he was "not a villain". "This last year and especially now have been hard emotional times for my wife my children and me. What is occurring is the very painful breakdown of an almost 30-year relationship," he wrote.

McLean was released posting $10,000 (£7,100) bail from Knox County jail. Patricia, his wife stated that the singer was suffering in a pattern of abuse going back three decades. McLean has "vigorously denied" his wife's claims. Following his arrest, he asked his fans not to judge him. Don McLean became known in 1971 for his hit song American Pie, which became a hit around the world.
