Kesha loses contract nullification case against Sony and Dr. Luke; Celebrities, fans show support for the singer

"Tik Tok" singer Kesha was in tears Friday after a Manhattan Supreme Court judge refused to terminate her contract with Sony Records and producer Dr. Luke, whom she alleged of raping her when she was 18 years old.

The 28-year-old pop crooner has been struggling to nullify her six-album deal with the music label for the last three years. Kesha requested the court to grant her preliminary injunction to give her a temporary break from her contract with Sony and Dr. Luke.  The singer's attorney claimed that if an injunction isn't issued in Kesha's favor any time soon, she would suffer irreparable damages to her career.

New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich was not doubtful of petitioner's argument, stating that it undermines the state's laws on contracts.

"You're asking the court to decimate a contract that was heavily negotiated and typical for the industry," Judge Kornreich told Kesha's lawyer, as quoted by CNN.

Kornreich also heard arguments from Dr. Luke's camp who reportedly invested $60 million into building up Kesha's career. The producer is of the position that Kesha's camp is trying to extort him in order to liberate the singer from the company. He also denied the rape allegations, while his reps called the claims vague and not seasonably filed.

New York Daily News reported that Sony has agreed to allow Kesha to work with another producer in the company and without Dr. Luke's intervention. However, the singer is skeptical that her music would not be promoted and taken care of under the company with which she already has a strained relationship.

Judge Kornreich only ruled on the petition for preliminary injunction, and opted to reserve her decision on the motion to dismiss for a later time.

The lawsuit follows sexual abuse allegations Kesha filed against producer Dr. Luke, whose real name is Luke Gottwald. According to Mirror, Kesha alleged she was forced to use drugs and alcohol, and often time found herself in situations where she had no prior memory of. The singer's mother also revealed that the singer was pressured to lose weight. Kesha was allegedly coerced to appetite suppressants, which later led to her undergoing rehab for bulimia.

Meanwhile, celebrities showed support for Kesha through Twitter on Friday. Lady Gaga said she is in awe of Kesha's bravery. Iggy Azalea also tweeted that the singer "deserves the ability to move forward" with her life and career.
