Authorities arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly killing an elderly couple in Branchburg. He is now being held for a $2 million bond.

In a report by ABC News, the suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Ezra Simon-Daniels of Branchburg Township, New Jersey. He is now facing two counts of first-degree murder, according to Somerset County prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano.

Simon-Daniels made a 911 call to Readington Township police on Saturday at around 6 in the morning. The suspect reportedly informed them that he was in the parking lot of a local business. According to CBS, responding officers found him sitting in the driver's seat of a car, covered with blood but without visible wounds on his body.

Readington police officials called Branchburg Township officials and asked them to make a welfare check on the home of Simon-Daniels. After knocking several times without any response, officers entered the premises and found an elderly man and woman with significant blunt force trauma to their heads.

As per preliminary investigation, the victims were lying in bed when they were beaten, News 12 New Jersey reported. It is suspected that the murder weapon used in the killing is an aluminum baseball bat. It was unclear what the motive in the killing was and what the relationship of Simon-Daniels is to the elder couple whose names have not been disclosed.

The results of the autopsies are yet to be released so as to confirm the identities of the victims as well as the cause and manner of the deaths.
