‘Colony’ Update: USA Network Renews Josh Holloway-Drama for Season 2

USA Network has renewed Colony for a second season, the cable net has announced on Thursday.

The scifi drama, which hails from Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal, has been granted a second season pickup after airing its third episode – Deadline reports.

USA president Chris McCumber released a statement following the announcement.

“Carlton and Ryan have successfully delivered a story that tests the strengths and weaknesses of a society in duress, and the bonds of a family divided,” he said.

“‘Colony’s’ performance across all platforms has been impressive, and we can’t wait to see where the story takes us.”

As for the show’s ratings, the new drama showed signs of potential. TV Line reported that Colony started with a steady premiere last month, targeting a total of 1.4 million viewers and a 0.4 rating. Its second week fared okay with a 1.2 mil and a 0.5.

Colony, according to a review, is a story with “big ideas” and “allusions”. However, the pilot episode laid a distinct element which hints that the writers aren’t planning to tell the viewers what exactly is happening.

As TV. com wrote: “It's a pilot that mostly relies on the main characters and the audience simultaneously discovering key pieces of information”.

The one hour drama stars Josh Holloway (Lost) and Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead). It follows the story of a family’s struggle to survive and bring liberty back to the residents of an occupied Los Angeles. Just like other scifi series mired with political issues, Colony also aims to take viewers on a dangerous world filled with divided ideologies.

Holloway plays former FBI agent Will Bowman and Wayne Callie plays his wife, Katie.
Other cast members include: Alex Neustaedter, Amanda Righetti, Peter Jacobson, Tory Kittles, and Gonzalo Menendez.

Catch new episodes of Colony every Thursday at 10 PM on USA Network.
