Power Rangers Reboot delayed to March 2017 release date; Remake aims to go for a 'bouyant' tone

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is currently in the works and current speculations suggest that Rita Repulsa might be the main villain in the upcoming film. Director Dean Israelite also stated that they are going for a fun tone compared to the recent trend in live-action superhero movies.

Several 90's hit movies and tv shows are currently up for reboots and the upcoming Power Rangers flick is on the list. But unlike most superhero movies that are aiming for a more mature tone, Cheat Sheet reported that Dean Israelite confirmed that they are sticking with the franchise's fun and buoyant tone.

"I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way", Israelite stated in an interview with IGN.

Aside from its playful tone, not much is known about the project. However, according to Design n Trend, the classic heroes' foe could be Rita Repulsa. However, it is also possible that other villains might appear as well since Rita is likely to summon her henchmen and get them to do the dirty work in wreaking havoc on Earth.

Furthermore, per Youth Health Magazine, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was also moved to a later date in order to avoid other potential box office flicks for 2017 such as "The Dark Tower", "Friday the 13th", "Geostorm" and Paramount's "Monster Trucks".

The classic heroes from the tv series will return with Naomi Scott is set to play the role of Pink Ranger, Becky Gomez as Yellow Ranger, RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger, and Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger.

Mighty Morphin Power Ranger is directed by Dean Israelite, with screenplay written by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller. It is currently set to be released in theaters in March 24, 2017 from its previous January 2017 schedule.
