Newborn Twin Deaths: Lindsey Lowe Found Guilty of Murder, Will Serve Minimum of 51 Years in Prison

By

Lindsey Lowe, the Tennessee woman who admitted to killing her newborn twin sons, was convicted of first-degree murder on Tuesday.

Lowe, 26, was sentenced to life in prison for two counts of felony first-degree murder, felony premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse. She will be eligible for parole in 51 years, according to UPI.com.

Lowe told detectives she gave birth to two boys in Hendersonville Tennessee, where she lived with her parents, only to put a hand over the first baby's mouth until it died, doing the same to his brother.

Lowe behaved as though she'd never been pregnant. None of her friends or family knew of her pregnancy. The father of the twin boys, Jeremy Smith, testified that he only learned that she was pregnant, and that he was the father, until after Lowe was charged with murdering her sons, according to the Daily Mail.

"I don't think it was planned for 9 months but I think it was pre-planned at the time because you don't clean up after yourself if you don't have a plan," said one juror Ted Jones. "We contemplated second degree, but we felt like because it was two infants incapable of fighting for themselves, that was pretty brutal."

Lowe's attorney argued his client was in a state of denial about being pregnant, even delusional when she killed her newborns. Her father and sister testified on her behalf, but Lowe declined to take the stand in her own defense.

Earlier in the trial, it was revealed that Lowe told police the twins drowned in the toilet after she gave birth to them, before eventually breaking down and admitting she smothered them to stop them from crying.

Lowe was taken into custody after her father discovered one of the baby's tiny bodies in the laundry basket of her bedroom.

"After I pulled the bloody towel back, I saw a deceased infant," officer Jeremy Fentress said when he took the stand two weeks ago.
