An Oklahoma police chief and his wife were arrested on Sunday after law enforcement officials received a tip saying that there was a drug activity at the couple's home. Investigators said that they did find a small amount of marijuana during the search.
According to News On 6, the police chief is with the Hartshorne Police Department and has been identified as Josh Brillo. His wife, Heather Brillo, 36 years old, claimed that the small amount of marijuana belonged to her as per her statement to the director of the Task Force, which has been investigating the case. Heather added that her husband was also arrested as he apparently knew that she had pot on her but did not do anything about the situation despite being the police chief.
Adam Scharn, assistant district attorney drug task force in Pittsburg County, said, "Several marijuana roaches or remnants of marijuana were found in a common area, an astray, and there was a smell of marijuana in the house." It is unclear if Heather was smoking marijuana before the arrest and if Josh was aware.
The District 18 Drug Task Force were the ones who arrested the couple and Heather was taken in for possession of a controlled substance complaint but was released on a $500 bond. Her husband, on the other hand, has been released on a $2,500 bond, ABC Tulsa reported.
He has also denied any involvement regarding the small amount of marijuana recovered, News Channel 4 reported. When reporters asked him regarding the incident, the Chief said that it is bogus and that he was unaware of what his wife was doing. He noted that he is currently in law enforcement training and has not been spending a lot of time at home. He continued to explain his work schedule citing that he leaves there home at 4 A.M. then arrive at around 8:30 or 9:00 P.M.
Sgt. Christ Morris, with the McAlester Police Department, released a statement saying, "When it's presented to you and right in front of your face you've got to act as a law enforcement and do your job and that didn't happen in this case."
Josh and Heather Brillo appeared in court on Monday. There are no further details about this yet.
