Michelle Obama and Bipartisan bill modify the healthier meal standards in schools

After more than 2 years of public arguments, a group of school nutrition heads and the first lady Michelle Obama were headed on a bill for the students. This truce will aim to improve the healthier meal standards for US school children.

According to Yahoo! News, a bipartisan Senate agreement would change the healthier meal standards that will give schools more flexibility when it comes to serving school children. This will emphasize the requirements of whole grains and delaying the upcoming deadline in cutting sodium levels on the school lunch.

The School Nutrition Committee that sells the food to schools claimed that it is supportive of the legislation written by Senate Agriculture Chairman Pat Roberts, R-Kan, and the committee's top Democrat, which is Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan. "In the absence of increased funding, this agreement eases operational challenges and provides school meal programs critical flexibility to help them plan healthy school meals that appeal to students," the association's president, Jean Ronnei stated via Daily Mail UK.

Moreover, the White House has yet to weigh in the whole situation, but the committee helps the said administration that was involved in writing the bill and is expected to be supportive of the schools. The aides refused to be identified as they were not authorized to speak publicly about the legislation.

US News also claimed that nutrition advocates who have defended the rules to a handful of critics were all positive. Nutrition advocates who have fiercely defended the rules were also positive. The five- year Senate legislation would direct the Agriculture Department to change the whole grain and sodium standards within the 90 days of the bills function. Under the bill, the new rules would scale back the whole grain standards to require at 80 percent grains.

In the meantime, the schools have been very vocal that the whole grain rules were somewhat tough in some cases since whole grain pasta is harder to cook and some kids don't even like to consume it as much. As of the moment, Southern schools have had problems finding tasty whole grain biscuits and grits and schools in the Southwest claim that their students refuse to eat the whole grain tortillas.
