Killed Same Day Sister Sat Behind Obama: Janay McFarlane, 18-year-old Chicago Girl Slain on Same Day as Sister Listened to the President Discuss Gun Control

By

18-year old Janay McFarlane, mother of a baby boy, was shot and killed on Friday in a Chicago suburb just hours after her younger sister sat on the stage during President Barack Obama's gun control speech, according to MyFoxChicago.com.

Two people are being questioned in the shooting death of McFarlane, but no one has yet been charged. The mother of a 3-month year old was shot once in the head around 11:30 p.m. on Friday.

"Every time I think about the way my child died it's hard to think about her dying like that because she didn't deserve it, she didn't deserve dying like that," mother, Angela Brinkley, told MyFox.com. "The gunman was reportedly targeting the friend McFarlane was with when she was shot."

Hours earlier, McFarlane's 14-year-old sister Destini Warren was feet from Obama at Hyde Park Career Academy, where he spoke about gun violence and paid tribute to Hadiya Pendleton, the 15-year-old honor student fatally shot last month in a South Side park. Police have said it was a case of mistaken identity, and two people have been charged.

"It really hurt me when I find out that it happened to my sister because I was just listening to... I was thinking about her dying when he was saying it and then later on they called me and told me it happened to my sister," Warren said.
